A Markdown editor, viewer and converter in your browser
Lumidown opens .md files, shows them nicely formatted, and turns them into documents other people can use — Word, PDF, HTML — or into the formatting Slack, Teams, Discord and Jira understand. It also goes the other way: Word files and web pages become clean Markdown.
Everything runs on your device. There is no account, nothing to install, and your files are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
What is a .md file?
A Markdown file: plain text with simple marks for formatting — # for headings, ** for bold, - for lists. READMEs, notes, documentation and the answers of AI assistants are written in it.
How do I open a .md file?
Drop it on this page, or use File → Open. It shows formatted on the right; edit it on the left. To only read it, use the Markdown viewer.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Lumidown has no server for your documents: opening, editing and converting all happen in your browser, and your work is saved on your device.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after your first visit. Install it (File → Install app in Chrome or Edge) to open .md files from your computer.
Is it free?
Yes — no account, no limits, no ads.
